Organic Store Cattle Autumn Sale Round-Up 

Friday 29th October

Aberdeen & Northern Marts - Thainstone Centre sold 53 Organic Store cattle with averages for both stots and heifers up on the year.  Some nice groups of organic heifers that went through the ring had breeding potential.

Organic Bullocks (28) averaged 308.7p (+70.8p on the year) and sold to 335p per kg for a 394kg Stabiliser Cross from SOPA Member Mains of Thornton, Bourtie and £1510 gross for a 538kg Whitbred Shorthorn Cross from Upper Wheedlemont, Rhynie.

Organic Heifers (25) averaged 269p (+29.7p on the year) and sold to 307.3p per kg for a 410kg Stabiliser Cross from Mains of Thornton, Bourtie and £1695 gross for a Pen of Three 654kg Aberdeen Angus from SOPA Member Wester Manbeen Farm, Elgin.

Organic bullocks achieved a 22.4p premium on the average compared to non-organic.

Monday 2nd October

C & D Auction Marts Ltd - Dumfries Mart held their Special Autumn Sale of 227 Organic Store cattle.  There was a good ringside of buyers in attendance with all classes keenly sought.  Organic bullocks averaged 299.6p/kg (+59.2p on the year) and selling to a top £1690 for a Limousin bullock from SOPA Member JW Gibb, Toftcombs and 345p/kg for Shorthorn bullocks from SOPA Member Dumfries House Farm.

Organic heifers sold to £1680 for a Limousin from Toftcombs and to 321p/kg for Angus’s consigned by SOPA Member M. Hamilton, Woolfords.
