Entries Open: 2023 AgriScot Silage Competition

The competition is in its 22nd year and numerous SOPA Members have made the finals and won in the various categories with their organic silages over the years.

You have until the 25th of October to submit your silage report for the competition via email to Andrew Best at abest@watsonseeds.com.

There are four categories in the Silage Competition:

1. Beef Clamp;

2. Dairy Clamp;

3. Big Bale and;

4. Young Farmers (those aged under 30)

Entries can be submitted from any cut of silage.

An initial review of the analysis submitted will be undertaken with judges evaluating metabolisable energy, crude protein, and dry matter.  Then the top three silages from each category will be contacted to have a fresh sample of silage collected ahead of the live judging at AgriScot on Wednesday 22nd November.

On the day, judges, Hugh McClymont and RHASS chairman and agronomist, Jim Warnock will conduct the judging in the main ring.

Each category winner will be awarded ten acres of any Watson Seeds Castle Mixture from the competitions organiser and sponsor Watson Seeds, with second and third place, receiving five and two acres, respectively. Organic complaint Castle mixtures are available too.
