On Wednesday, November 6th, the "Celebrating Organics—Food for the Future" conference brought together thought leaders, industry experts, and passionate advocates for organic farming and sustainable food systems. Held in an atmosphere of collaboration and forward-thinking, the event was a resounding success, leaving attendees inspired and motivated to champion the organic movement.

The conference began with a welcome from Jim Fairlie (Minister for Agriculture and Connectivity of Scotland), he acknowledged that organics is hugely important to ScotGov and they will continue to support the industry within the budgetary constraints that they have. He highlighted the power of conferences and networking opportunities within the farming community and the challenge we are trying to overcome of reconnecting to the consumer. He also mentioned that the AECS applications are still under review.

The conference got underway with engaging talks that set the stage for meaningful conversations about the future of organic food and farming. Key topics included:

Regenerative vs. Organic Farming

Roger Kerr presented the distinctions and synergies between regenerative and organic farming practices. The presentation explored how both approaches aim to restore soil health, promote biodiversity, and combat climate change, yet differ in their principles and certification processes. Attendees left with a deeper understanding of how these methods can complement one another in creating resilient food systems.

Organic Consumer Insights Report

Cristina Dimmeto presented a comprehensive analysis of consumer trends that highlighted the growing demand for organic products. She presented data showing how informed consumers are increasingly prioritizing health, sustainability, and ethical sourcing in their food choices and that from their research the main buyers of organic aren’t necessarily the most wealthy(a common misconception). The report offered valuable takeaways for businesses looking to align with these evolving preferences.  Consumer report linked here
